What is the symptothermal method?
The symptothermal method is based on the evaluation of at least two body signals to determine the fertile days in the cycle. Any woman can learn this method who is willing to document her body signals daily.
Only a basal thermometer that measures to two decimal places is needed to use the method.
The symptothermal method is used to determine the fertile days of the female menstrual cycle. Changes in basal body temperature and cervical mucus or the cervix are evaluated.
What's the best way to get started with the Ovy app?
Ideally, you should start using the Ovy app on the first day of your period, which is the first day of your cycle, but you can also start at any point in your cycle. Start by downloading the Ovy app from the Apple or Google Play Store. After registration, the Ovy app will ask for relevant data to calculate your first cycle.
Who is the Ovy app suitable for?
The Ovy app is a standalone application software for iOS™ or Android™ smartphones for the digital monitoring of a woman's menstrual cycle from 18 years of age and older. Ovy can be used for contraception or family planning. There is no specific indication.
For whom is the Ovy app not suitable?
The Ovy App is not suitable for women for whom pregnancy poses a (severe) health risk. The Ovy App, just like the pill and other contraceptives, cannot prevent pregnancy with 100% certainty.
Further exclusions:
- Women under 18 years of age.
- Women who have irregular cycles (cycle length of over 56 days or under 16 days), as determining fertile and infertile days is difficult in these cases.
- Women who cannot guarantee daily documentation of their body signals or measurement of their temperature.
- Women with irregular sleep/wake rhythms (e.g., shift work, long-distance travel) where temperature readings may be inaccurate.
- Pregnancy planning with the Ovy App is not possible in cases of female or male infertility.
Do you need a basal thermometer to use the Ovy app?
The fertile days of the female menstrual cycle are determined using the symptothermal method with the help of the Ovy App. Changes in basal body temperature and cervical mucus or the cervix are evaluated.
With the Ovy Bluetooth Basal Thermometer, which automatically transfers the basal body temperature to the Ovy App after the morning measurement, without the need to open the app.
With the Ovy Basal Thermometer, which requires manual entry of the morning temperature into the Ovy App.
With a conventional basal thermometer that measures accurately to two decimal places.
